John Bognatz was a member of the Holy Name Cadets and the Garfield Cadets from 1948 to 1959. During his time in the corps, he made what is arguably his most significant contribution to the organization: The Garfield Cadets' logo. John was a marching member when the Holy Name Church cut ties with The Cadets, and as an aspiring artist, he offered to design a new logo. Since then, the Garfield medallion logo has become a timeless symbol transcending several name changes and geographical affiliations. For more than 30 years afterwards, John continued to donate his time and talent to create a brand identity for The Cadets, designing and producing the many assets needed both on and off the field, as well as volunteering even more of his time to tour with the corps during the summer.
