Joe Busuito is the Assistant Director of Concert and Athletic Bands at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and he holds the rank of Assistant Professor in the Mason Gross School of the Arts. He is the director of the Rutgers Symphony Band, and he instructs the Marching Scarlet Knights and Pep Bands. He is also a member of the music education faculty, serving as the instructor for the Brass Instrumental Techniques course and first-year conducting class.
Busuito holds the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Conducting, Wind Band from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he studied with Dr. Steve Peterson. As a graduate teaching assistant, he instructed musicians in the university concert and athletic bands, conducting, and music education classes. Busuito’s mentors also include Prof. Barry Houser, and Drs. Linda Moorhouse and Beth Peterson. His research has been published in the WASBE Journal, and he has presented at the CBDNA National Conference.
He received a Master of Music in Wind Conducting from Western Michigan University in 2015 where he was also a graduate teaching assistant, studying with Drs. Scott Boerma and David Montgomery. Joe received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Western Michigan University, and he studied trombone with Dr. Steve Wolfinbarger. From 2009 to 2013, Joe was the Assistant Director of Bands at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan where he instructed three concert bands, jazz band, marching band, guitar, and general music classes.
Busuito has been involved in the drum corps activity since 2006. He was a member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2006 and 2007. He joined the brass staff of the Bluecoats in 2011 where he taught the baritones and euphoniums. From 2012 through 2015, Busuito served as a brass staff member for the Santa Clara Vanguard, primarily instructing the baritones. Since moving to New Jersey in 2017, he has been a member of the brass staff of the Cadets and is excited to continue to serve this elite organization.
Joe is originally from Lake Orion, Michigan. He lives with his wife, son, and their tri-color collie in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
