Kate Thane was born and raised in Round Rock, Texas where she graduated from McNeil High School. She is currently a senior Music Education major at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and is graduating in the Spring of 2020. At Texas State, Thane is fortunate to study music and education under the direction of Caroline Beaty, Kyle Glaser, John Denis, and Kurt Moede. She studied trumpet under her professor Keith Winking, former principal trumpet of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and Robert Cannon, current principal trumpet of the Austin Symphony Orchestra. White at Texas State, Thane served as trumpet section leader and as Drum Major for the Bobcat Marching Band. In addition to being involved with the marching band for three seasons, she has been a member of the Jazz Lab Band, Jazz Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Symphony. In the Collegiate Texas Music Educators Association, she served as Treasurer for one semester and as the Vice President for the following four semesters.
Thane is very active as a visual and music technician in central Texas where she has taught at Dripping Springs High School in Dripping Springs Independent School District, McNeil High School in Round Rock Independent School District, Canyon High School in Comal Independent School District, and Westlake High School in Eanes Independent School District. In addition to working with high school marching bands, she also teaches as a private lesson teacher as a mellophone, trumpet, and visual instructor.
Kate Thane marched with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps for three consecutive seasons, 2017-2019. During the 2017 season, she was a lead mellophone member. In 2018 and 2019, she played trumpet, serving as the trumpet section leader for her final season. During the summer of 2019, she was fortunate to perform as the NFL Hall of Fame Halftime performance.
This will be the first time that Thane has been a part of drum corps as a staff member and is very grateful for the opportunity to serve as a High Brass Intern for the 2020 season. She is looking forward to working with all marching and staff members of The Cadets and cannot wait to learn from a top notch team. She admires the tradition, passion, and the excellence of The Cadets and is more than ready to contribute all she can to this corps.
