Richard Alvarado is a native of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is a graduate of Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, Texas. He is currently finishing up his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. At TCU, he studies conducting with Bobby Francis, music education with Dr. Laura Singletary, tuba with Richard Murrow, and drill writing and show design with Matt Garrett and Brian Youngblood. In addition to performing as principal tuba of the TCU Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra, he currently serves as drum major of the Pride of TCU Horned Frog Marching Band, and has served as president of the TCU Band, president of the TCU Tuba-Euphonium Society, and president of Kappa Kappa Psi.
Richard has taught and currently teaches as both a private euphonium and tuba instructor and a visual instructor at several programs within the Dallas-Fort Metroplex including programs in the Aledo Independent School District, the Keller Independent School District, and the Mansfield Independent School District. Richard was a member of the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps for three years (2017-2019) and performed as a tuba soloist in 2017 and 2018.
Richard is extremely excited to take on the role of a Low Brass Intern with The Cadets for the 2020 season. He looks forward to contributing to the brass program and learning from a team of master teachers as he prepares to fulfill his dreams of becoming a public school band director.
