Job Description:


Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!) is seeking a Social Media Manager with moderate experience to execute a social media strategy that will build communities on various social media platforms and increase YEA!’s online influence and engagement.

YEA!'s programs include The Cadets, Cadets2, Cadets Winter Percussion, Cadets Winter Guard, Xcape Dance Studio, the Designated Hitters, and more. All of these programs have information to share, fans to support and memberships to inform.

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of YEA!’s social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest and SoundCloud. The successful candidate will create compelling online content and graphics that appeal to a wide range of audiences and drive growth for all programs. This person will also be responsible for providing stories and updates for

This Social Media Manager will be a member of the YEA! Marketing Department, reporting directly to the Director of Marketing and working closely and collaboratively with the Development, Information Technology and Editorial Departments as well as the program managers for each of YEA!'s aforementioned programs.

This a job for an outgoing, creative person with excellent writing and organizational skills who can consistently generate relevant content for several brands simultaneously.

We are looking for someone who is highly self-motivated and constantly brainstorming new ways to stay on the creative edge of social communication.

A degree and experience in journalism or mass communication is required, as well as proven knowledge of various social media and the different rhythms of each. It is imperative that the Social Media Manager understands the different audiences and communication styles inherent to different media. Based on that knowledge, this person will be entrusted to adjust tone to appropriately deliver brand messages to myriad audiences.

High attention to detail is a necessity in this role, as the Social Media Manager will be trusted as the voice of Youth Education in the Arts and each of its programs, both individually and collectively.

This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop brand awareness and generate inbound traffic on social media and company web pages
  • Design and implement YEA!’s content strategies across various channels
  • Create and manage all social media content that will effectively engage intended audiences
  • Oversee design of social media pages for all programs (i.e. Facebook/Twitter cover photos, presentation of news stories, etc.)

  • Professional approach paired with the ability to communicate casually when appropriate
  • An eye for good visual design
  • Ability to craft messages that not only entertain the intended audience but persuade them to act (purchase tickets or merchandise, sign up for an audition or donate to a cause)
  • Excellent grammar and the ability to catch mistakes before publication
  • Ability to produce content quickly without error
  • Understanding of YEA!’s standard of excellence and a passion to uphold that standard while maintaining a positive, friendly tone
  • Solid technical understanding and ability to learn new platforms quickly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite

Other Duties

  • Work with department heads to design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns
  • Become an advocate for YEA! and its programs in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy
  • Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding the business
  • Analyze social media activity and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising communications
  • Monitor effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of social media strategies. Analyze, review, and report on effectiveness in an effort to maximize results


  • Possesses a college degree in, knowledge of and experience in marketing, communication and/or journalism
  • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media
  • Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary (e.g., content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management)
  • Shows the ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side, able to demonstrate why their ideas are analytically sound
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, SoundCloud, Pinterest, etc.), and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Maintains excellent writing and language skills regardless of tone or media
  • Displays ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in writing
  • Possesses great ability to identify potential negative or crisis situation and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues
