This weekend wrapped up the 2016 Fall season, with 62 bands competing for the title of National Champions at MetLife Stadium. Bands traveled from all over New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut, Virginia, and New York. Read on for scores, caption awards and more. Six bands competed in the I Open Class, with Joseph Case High School claiming the title of National Champs with a score of 96.475, and winning all captions. Joseph Case High School also won The Cadets Award of Excellence which is presented to the band with the highest achievement in the areas of creativity, excellence and overall effect. East Stroudsburg Area High School earned the second place title with a score of 94.563, and Burlington City High School earned a score of 92.925 for a third place finish.
12 bands competed in Group II Open, with Calvert Hall High School winning with a score of 96.876, and winning the captions of Best Music and Best Visual. Susquehanna Township High School earned second, with a score of 96.238 and winning the caption of Best Overall Effect. Shepherd Hill High School earned a score of 95.950 for a placement of third, and won the captions of Best Color Guard and Best Percussion. Robert E. Fitch won the caption award for Best Music, and earned an overall score of 95.863 for a fourth place finish. Lenape Regional High School won The Cadets Award of Excellence.
In Group III Open, eight bands total competed. The winner of Group III Open was King Philip Regional High School with a score of 97.438. They also swept the caption awards. Edison High School earned a score of 96.638 for second place, and Absegami High School earned a score of 96.275 for a placement of third. Absegami High School also won The Cadets Award of Excellence.
A whopping 16 bands competed in Group IV Open, with Blackstone-Millville High School taking the top spot with a score of 97.425. They also earned the caption awards for Best Color Guard, Best Music and Best Overall Effect. In second place, Quakertown High School earned a score of 97.013 and took the award for Best Visual. In third place, with a score of 96.163 was Nazareth Area High School. Taking the award for Best Percussion, Old Bridge High School earned a score of 96.025 for a fourth place finish, as well as earning The Cadets Award of Excellence.
Eleven bands competed in the V Open Group, with Dartmouth High School earning a score of 97.063 for a first place finish. Dartmouth also won the caption awards for Best Music and Best Percussion. Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School took second place with a score of 96.800 and took the caption award for Best Overall Effect. The caption award for Best Visual and the third place spot with to Passaic High School, with a score of 96.725. Smithfield-Selma High School took the caption of Best Color Guard. West Shore High School was the recipient of The Cadets Award of Excellence, for the highest achievement in the areas of creativity, excellence and overall effect.
Group VI Open saw eight bands, with Trumbull High School taking top honors with a score of 97.100. Alongside their first place finish, Trumbull earned the caption awards for Best Color Guard, Best Percussion and Best Overall Effect. In second place, with a score of 96.875 was South Brunswick High School. They also won the caption award for Best Music and The Cadets Award of Excellence. In third place, with a score of 96.650 and earning the caption award for Best Visual was Southington High School.
