USBands Weekend Recap: 9/9

Image 001 copy2The first 2017 fall competition weekend kicked off on Saturday, September 9 with events in Bethel, CT and Edison, NJ. Each competition featured nine ensembles in their first performances of the season. "We're excited to hit the ground running," said Steve Petzinger, Director of USBands. "It was a great first weekend for competitions, and we can't wait to bring even more bands into the mix."

In Bethel, CT Brookfield High School took first place in the I Fall - A category with a score of 70.650 to win Best Music, Best Overall Effect and Best Visual. In the II Fall - A group, Danbury High School earned a score of 73.875 for a first place finish and took the titles of Best Music, Best Overall Effect and Best Visual. New Fairfield High School was a close second with a score of 72.125. Newtown High School took home a score of 80.500 for the title of first place in the IV Fall - Open group. Blackstone-Millville High School and Naugatuck High School were close on their heels with second and third place scores, respectively. With a score of 73.590, Brien McMahon High School took the first place finish in the V Fall - A group, as well as Best Music, Best Overall Effect and Best Visual. New Milford High School took first place in the final group, V Fall - Open with a score of 76.850 as well as the titles of Best Music, Best Overall Effect and Best Visual. Bethel, CT Scores

Meanwhile in Edison, NJ, competition heated up at Edison High School. Delran High School took first place in the I Fall - Open group with a score of 77.425 as well as Best Music, Best Overall Effect and Best Image 021 copyVisual. With a score of 74.250, Morristown High School came in first in the category of IV Fall - A, while North Brunswick Township High School earned a first place finish in the V Fall - A group with a score of 74.475. Both bands earned Best Music, Best Overall Effect and Best Visual for their respective groups. Central Bucks High School South took home the first place title in the IV Fall - Open group with a score of 78.650 with Bridgewater-Raritan High School close behind. The VI - Fall Open group saw a close finish between Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and John P. Stevens High School, with Scotch Plains-Fanwood edging out a slight lead.
