Week three of USBands fall competition was smooth sailing as we hosted the most events on one day so far this season. A total of 15 events took place across the states of New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Virginia. This was the first weekend with a Platinum Premium event with the USBands Northern Virginia Regional in Herndon, VA featuring 30 competing ensembles.
In group I Fall - A, Riverside High School took first place with a score of 79.625 and swept the caption awards. With a score of 74.200, Manassas Park High School took first place and all of the caption awards in the II Fall - A group. Competition started to heat up in the III Fall - A group with Thomas S. Wootton High School coming in first with a score of 81.325 and earning top honors for Best Music, Best Overall Effect, Best Percussion and Best Visual. Woodgrove High School was hot on their heels with a score of 79.975 and the caption award for Best Color Guard. South County High School took the IV Fall - A group to new heights with a score of 85.638 and all of the caption awards with Potomac Falls High School and Falls Church High School coming in second and third, respectively. With a score of 78.363, Langley High School earned first place in the V Fall - A group, as well as all of the caption awards. West Springfield High School, a native Virginia ensemble, rounded out the A Class competition to take first place in the VI - Fall A group as well as sweeping the caption awards.
The Open Class competition kicked off with Tuscarora High School taking the top spot in the III Fall - Open group as well as the titles of Best Color Guard, Best Music, Best Overall Effect, Best Percussion and Best Visual. The IV Fall - Open group cut things close with 1.2 points separating first and third place. Loudoun County High School ultimately took the top spot with a score of 80.350 and the Best Visual caption award. Hot on their heels, Urbana High School took the second place spot with a score of 79.350 and the caption awards for Best Color Guard and Best Overall Effect. Close behind was Thomas Jefferson High School with a score of 79.150 and the caption awards for Best Music and Best Percussion. The Open Class continued with V Fall - Open where South Lakes High School took the top spot with a score of 80.200 and the Best Music, Best Overall, Best Percussion and Best Visual awards. With the title of Best Color Guard, Harrisonburg High School came in third with a score of 77.650. VI Fall - Open rounded out the competition as James Madison High School earned the title of champion and Best, Color Guard, Best Overall Effect and Best Visual with a score of 85.325. Freedom High School took the second place spot with final score of 85.113 and the caption awards for Best Music and Best Percussion.
