Youth Education in the Arts (YEA!) is a non-profit organization based in Allentown, PA. Its programs allow thousands of talented performers to participate in pageantry events nationwide.

YEA!'s programs include:

  • The Cadets - 10-Time World Champion Drum and Bugle Corps
  • Cadets2 - 2016 World Champion Drum and Bugle Corps
  • Xcape Dance Studio - Hip-Hop Dance Company
  • USBands - The largest sanctioning body for scholastic music competitions in the United States

Founded in 1990, Youth Education in the Arts affords young members the opportunity to participate in some of the most prestigious events in the world. Each year YEA! members participate in numerous high-profile ceremonies celebrating sporting events and political inaugurations as well as movie premieres and television commercials. YEA! performers have most recently performed with recording acts such as Shania Twain and Destiny's Child, appeared on MTV, the Late Show with David Letterman and the Today Show, as well as being featured performers in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. YEA! has also provided ensembles for professional sports teams including the New York Jets, New York Knicks and New Jersey Nets.

In the organization's illustrious history, YEA! performers have had the unique experience to appear most notably at the Summer Olympic Games, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, the World Cup and other notable national and international sporting events.

While amassing a long and storied tradition, YEA! groups have been recognized as World Champions in various disciplines. Over 750 members have had the experience of winning gold medals for their performances, quite possibly an honor they would not be able to realize in any other part of their lives.

YEA! invites the world of tomorrow and makes a huge difference in the lives of thousands of young people each year. Within the programs of YEA! young people gain an edge. They learn to cooperate, they learn to set goals, they work long and hard and they learn what it takes to be a success!

 

Job Summary:

This may be a chance for you to work at a job that matches your time constraints. It's perfect for guard people, drum guys, band aficionados and visual gurus. Youth Education in the Arts is in the middle of a sales spree!

  • We have bands to place in 140 events for the Fall.
  • We have 700 bands that we communicate with via phone and email.
  • We have five drum corps shows we are managing this summer.
  • We have a leadership workshop in April.
  • We have five "Music is Cool" events coming up.
  • And much more!

As you can tell, we have a lot to do! In order to accomplish all that we're up to, we are looking for people who are personable, happy, joyful and people-connectors to join our band relations team. Under the eye of Kevin Harrison, Director of USBands, you will join a current crew of five to help us hit the phones, send emails, work with our social media team, and in short, deliver what we have to offer to folks who may not even know about all of the great things YEA! has to offer.

 

What does this position look like?

  • You need to be in Allentown to work in band relations.
  • Typical office hours are 8:30 a.m. — 5:30 p.m.
  • The gig includes:
    • Calls and emails and all other contact do band directors. To reinforce, there are many, many phone calls.
    • Event management on weekends, particularly during the Fall.
    • Admin work and keeping track of the customers

 

You will do well in this position if...

  • You're comfortable speaking with band directors.
  • You can talk about The Cadets and band programs.
  • You understand the difference between a xylophone and a marimba.
  • You are high energy and driven.
  • You love to work in teams but you can get the work done without someone "on your back".
  • YEA! has lots of great programs including The Cadets, Cadets2, XCAPE (our hip hop dance company). We also work with 700 marching bands, 45 concert ensembles and 72 indoor ensembles. In order to provide the services we do, we need to engage far more people in the activity we all love!

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of social media tools: Facebook, Twitter.
  • Ability to handle some flexible hours (weekdays, some evenings, and an occasional Saturday and Sunday to help with events, especially during band season)
  • Strong writing abilities.
  • An understanding of and belief in, the mission of Youth Education in the Arts.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of event management, processes, and available resources including social marketing and web-based strategies.
  • Organizational, project planning and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: ability to interact effectively with community leaders, band directors, and a variety of volunteers.
  • Must be able to coordinate multiple tasks and be open to new learning experiences.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Creativity, drive and enthusiasm to carry projects to conclusion.
  • Ability to gather data, analyze information, and prepare reports.
  • Strong knowledge of Apple products.

 

Job Type: Full-time. Typical office hours are 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Job Summary:

The Marketing and Development Associate is part of a fast-paced Development office and team, and will become adept in activities related to non-profit fundraising and relationship management, including creating and implementing the fundraising, development and communications strategy.

The candidate should have familiarity with editing websites, social media, working with communications software, the ability to create content and the willingness to learn.

This position includes performing administrative duties related to fundraising, marketing and public relations, and they will firsthand experience in strategic planning to increase the capacity of a growing non-profit organization.

This role is entry level, perfect for a college graduate, or someone who wants to grow and learn in a fast-paced marketing and development role. The position will serve as the catalyst for a successful career in non-profit fundraising and relationship management for the right candidate.

We value relationship-based fundraising, and seek an individual whose goals are to become a well-recognized development professional. The Director of Fundraising and Donor Relations will work closely with the Associate to cultivate skills, while accomplishing the targets of the development department.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Development Plan that incorporates a range of strategies including annual appeals, major donors, grants, corporate and individual asks, and special events.
  • SPECIAL EVENTS:
  • Support the event committees in all signature events including wine tastings, drum corps shows, and key band events.
  • Take notes and minutes at event planning meetings and send to committee members in a timely fashion.
  • Attend all fundraising events to ensure delivery with the highest of standards, including staffing, set up and clean-up of the event.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE:
  • Assist in grant management and tracking.
  • Creating and maintaining development flyers and materials necessary for outreach.
  • Create and update all marketing materials necessary when applicable
  • Create annual report on an annual basis.
  • Create and send out thank you letters to all donors using GiftWorks on a weekly basis.
  • Other duties upon request.
