WarrenCorman BostonMarathon2014 Finish medalAnyone familiar with the world of running knows that the Boston Marathon is one of the highest achievements a runner can attain.

Monday morning, April 21, Cadets Alum Warren Corman ran the Boston for his second time, and he has graciously decided to use his efforts to help raise money for The Cadets.

Warren said he first started training to run distances on his own to get in shape for drum corps. He marched in the Garfield Cadets' baritone section from 1977 to 1984 and was a part of the corps' first two DCI World Championship titles.

He also met his wife, Karen Cinzio, in the corps. Karen began her Cadets career in 1977 as well, and she aged out as a color guard captain in 1983.

CBCCG Alum Ashley Pittman shares how her Cadets experience led to her new career

AshleyPittman 2008 busride laughOn Sunday, I realized that I cannot eat candy like a 19-year-old drum corps kid anymore.

At first I was pretty excited about my big basket full of Easter candy. I remember sometimes on the bus, my seat partner and I would down an entire family-size bag of Sour Patch Kids in one sitting, and we probably lost two pounds the next day.

Oh, the drum corps days.

This time of year, I get nostalgic for my years with The Cadets.

This was usually the time when I was heading to the April camp. I would get to see all of my friends I had not seen since November and meet all of the new members we would soon become like family. What an exciting time for the corps! I am already seeing the current members posting about how excited they are on Facebook.

Throughout the off-season, Cadets Director George Hopkins and key staff members have held a series of webinars every Tuesday evening to discuss the many facets of The Cadets.

On April 22, former Cadets Assistant Director and current Director of USBands Justin Heimbecker led the talk, joined by Cadets2 and Cadets Winter Percussion Director Rich Hammond, The Cadets Tour Director Lainey Braatz, and Xcape Dance Studio Director Dawn Blanco in a live, one-hour webinar guided by listeners' questions.

Here's a recap of the talk, which painted a picture of the far-reaching world of The Cadets.
