2014_ATTStadium_west_globe02229.jpgUSBands is excited to announce a brand new title and date for the 2019 edition of the Championship event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys, scheduled for Veteran's Day, Monday, November 11, 2019.

In a first-of-its-kind event for USBands, the organization has worked with the leadership at AT&T Stadium to create this extra special Monday event featuring high school marching bands from throughout the state of Texas and beyond.

Eric Kitchenman, USBands Texas Relations Manager, said in announcing the event, "Due to an NFL scheduling anomaly with the Cowboys, the previously announced date was no longer available. The teams at the Cowboys and USBands have worked for the better part of two months since the NFL schedule was announced to secure a unique and interesting opportunity for bands to cap off their 2019 season. We are proud to celebrate the veterans of our military who play such an important role in protecting our freedoms and acknowledging the roots from where marching bands originally began."

"We had so many letters of nomination and support for all of our candidates that it made it hard to narrow things down," said George Lea, Hall of Fame Committee Chairman. "The selection process was full of love and support for so many candidates whose impacts are felt so deeply on the organization. We want to thank everyone who took the time to write a letter to the Committee."

linda.pngWe are thrilled to report that our very own Linda Vitale has been named one of the 2019 DCI Volunteers of the Year. Thanks to her tireless work for The Cadets over the last 12 years, Drum Corps International's Friends of DCI program selected Linda to be recognized for her momentous impact on the community this August during the DCI World Championship Semifinals in Indianapolis, IN.

“She is so protective of the members and demands that they look nothing short of their Cadet finest at all times,” said Scott Litzenberg, Director of The Cadets. “We can't say enough of her love of the members and the love they show her back.”

Linda began her journey with The Cadets in 2007 and has served as THE uniform aficionado, putting her seamstress skills to work day-in and day-out. In addition to fitting hundreds of uniforms, Linda has also worked as the stand-in merchandise manager ensuring that not only the members of The Cadets look good, but our fans as well. Throughout her unflagging work with the corps, she has become an integral part of the Cadets experience. Every member has been impacted by her work and every staff member and volunteer has come to know her as a part of the sewing crew.

2018-09-29 USBands Dartmouth - Admin 02 copy_0.JPGA note from Erik Kitchenman, USBands Adjudication Coordinator

In 2019 all sub-captions will have a potential of 100 points (tenths). This system-wide application will deeply assist in the consistency of number management and the opportunity for all in our community to speak from the same understanding regarding number application.

This adjustment comes from two years of exploration and acquiring insight from band directors (survey and anecdotally) and the best consultants in our activity. Because of the wide diversity and unique backgrounds of our adjudication pool, there were a variety of approaches with how sheets were applied through a broad range of numbers (100, 200. 300. 400) along with a disparity of multipliers that added an additional layer of confusion. Everyone agreed that it is time to simplify and clarify.

In this new application of 100 in all sub-captions, a tenth will be a tenth and the Criteria Reference system and box ranges will remain the same through the season. This means there will be no sliding scale in 2019 as well.
