After a four-month-long, nationwide search process, Youth Education in the Arts announces the appointment of Vicki Ferrence Ray as the organization’s new Executive Director. Ferrence Ray will take over leadership of YEA! on a full-time basis on October 29th. Until then, the Board of Directors will continue to run the organization by committee.
A Cadet alumna, Ferrence Ray will be responsible for leading all operations of YEA! and will report to the Board of Directors. Her management team will consist of the four program directors (The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, Cadets2 Drum and Bugle Corps, Xcape Community Dance Program, and USBands Scholastic Program). She will also oversee development, marketing, information technology, finance, and human resources.
Ferrence Ray was most recently the Chief National Programs Officer for Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership. In that role, she oversaw the Program Department staff who supervise 58 U.S. affiliates and 70 program sites across all 50 states, and a network of 4000+ volunteers serving approximately 10,000 students annually. Prior to working for HOBY she served as an Assistant Deputy Mayor for Management and Productivity for the City of Philadelphia.
“We are thrilled to have Vicki as our Executive Director,” Said YEA! Board Chair Doug Rutherford. “She has proven her leadership skills and ability to make thoughtful and important decisions in her work at HOBY. When combined with her first-hand knowledge of YEA! and the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps as a member and a volunteer, we believe she is well-positioned to guide YEA! to meet the challenges and growth opportunities for the future.”
Vicki has a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology from Penn State University (PSU) and a Master of Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania (PENN). She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Administration and Leadership Studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).
