On a call with The Cadets 2016 membership, George Hopkins, director of The Cadets and CEO of Youth Education in the Arts, announced that he and Tom Aungst have come to agreement on a five-year contract that will have Tom rejoin The Cadets as the percussion arranger and caption supervisor beginning in 2017.
Tom was a member of The Cadets from 1981 to 1984, he was part of the percussion team from 1985 to 1988, and he served as the percussion caption supervisor and arranger from 1989 to 2008.
Tom is a member of The Cadets Hall of Fame as well as both the DCI and WGI Halls of Fame.
In making the announcement, Hopkins said, “This is a dream come true. Tom had a 27-year career with The Cadets, and to have an opportunity to work together again is just fantastic. An entire new generation of Cadets will come to know the intensity, the passion, the excitement, and the musical, rapid-fire, percussion arranging that is Tom Aungst."
Mr. Aungst, who is also a highly successful band and percussion director at Dartmouth High School in Massachusetts, followed up, “My desire to continue what we started here so long ago was the driving reason for my decision to return to The Cadets.
"The Cadets gave me so very much," Aungst continued. "I was here for 27 years, and in many ways, those years contributed to the person I am today. To be able to be back, and give back, to such a legendary organization is exciting. I look forward to helping create a new future for the corps, while at the same time, honoring the traditions and excellence that is the Cadets. I cannot wait to get started."
Tom and The Cadets will be announcing the full percussion team in coming days. In addition, there will be announcements regarding The Cadets' brass team and design team, and more.
Rehearsals for The 2017 Cadets will begin the weekend of November 18-20. Click here to be the first to receive audition information!
