Joe is a member of the faculty of the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University as Brass Coordinator, and he is the Assistant Director of Concert and Athletic Bands. He is an instructor for the Marching Scarlet Knights and Pep Bands, and he conducts the Rutgers University Symphony Band and Brass Ensemble.
Joe has completed the coursework for the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Conducting at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he studied with Dr. Steve Peterson. As a graduate teaching assistant, he worked with musicians in the university concert bands, athletic bands, conducting, and music education classes. Joe received additional mentorship from Prof. Barry Houser, and Drs. Beth Peterson and Linda Moorhouse. He received a Master of Music in Wind Conducting at Western Michigan University in 2015 where he was a graduate assistant, studying with Drs. Scott Boerma and David Montgomery. In 2009, Joe received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Western Michigan University, and he studied trombone with Dr. Steve Wolfinbarger.
Drum and bugle corps has played a significant role in Joe’s development as an educator and brass pedagogue. He was a member of the brass staff for the Santa Clara Vanguard from 2012 through 2015 and worked with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011. As a marching member, Joe spent two summers with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2006 and 2007, playing in the baritone section.
Joe is originally from Lake Orion, Michigan. He lives with his wife to whom he has been happily married since 2013. They have a beautiful tri-color collie puppy!
