Joe Busuito is a member of the faculty of the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, serving as the Assistant Director of Concert and Athletic Bands. He conducts the Rutgers University Symphony Band and Brass Ensemble, and he is an instructor for the Marching Scarlet Knights and basketball bands.
Busuito holds the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in Instrumental Conducting (Wind Band) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studied with Steve Peterson, Barry Houser, Linda Moorhouse and Beth Peterson. As a graduate assistant, he conducted musicians in each of the five university concert bands, athletic bands, and he assisted in music education classes. He also served as the instructor for the first-level instrumental conducting course. Busuito received the degree of Master of Music in Wind Conducting at Western Michigan University in 2015 where he was also a graduate assistant. In this role, Busuito taught and conducted the athletic and concert bands, as well as assisted in conducting and music education courses. He was a student of Scott Boerma and David Montgomery. In 2009, Busuito received a Bachelor of Music Education from Western Michigan University, and he studied trombone with Steve Wolfinbarger.
Between 2009 and 2013, Busuito served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan. He taught a variety of ensembles, including the concert, jazz, and marching bands, as well as guitar and general music classes. He also developed and taught the curriculum for AP Music Theory and International Baccalaureate Music courses.
Busuito was a member of the brass staff of the Santa Clara Vanguard for four seasons from 2012 through 2015, and the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps in 2011. He was also a member of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2006 and 2007.
Busuito is originally from Lake Orion, Michigan, and he currently resides in Bridgewater, New Jersey with his wife, Allison.
