Brass Instructor, The Cadets
Dr. Jason Rinehart is thrilled to be joining The Cadets this year as a brass instructor. Currently, he the is on faculty at the University of South Alabama as Associate Director of Bands and Associate Director of Athletic Bands. He co-directs the 250-member Jaguar Marching Band, the Jag Band and oversees the USA Jaguar Winterguard. Dr. Rinehart conducts the USA Symphony Band and is the Music Director for the USA Opera program. Dr. Rinehart was appointed Music Director and Conductor of the Baldwin Pops in July, 2017.
From 2007-2016, Jason served as Assistant Director of Bands, Director of Athletic Bands, and Director of Orchestras at the University of Louisiana, Monore. At ULM he directed the Sound of Today marching band, the Technical Fowls basketball pep band, the Symphonic Band and guest conducted the Wind Ensemble. Prior to his appointment at ULM, Rinehart taught at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music, Benedictine College, and St. Louis Community College.
Dr. Rinehart has studied conducting with David Effron and Gunther Schuller at the Brevard Music Center, Robert Olson at UMKC, Paul Philips at SMU and James Sudduth at Texas Tech. In 2013, Dr. Rinehart was named a Finalist for the American Prize in Conducting.
Professional ensembles under his leadership include the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, Atchison Symphony, Kansas City Ballet, Fountain City and St. Louis Brass Bands, in addition to numerous collegiate orchestras and wind ensembles, and conducting over forty-two main stage opera and musical productions. An avid lover of the stage, Jason has also been a director for such musicals as The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Les Misérables. Dr. Rinehart also served as conductor for the 2015 New York State Band Directors Association All-State Middle School Band.
Dr. Rinehart is in demand as a clinician and has worked with ensembles in Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mississippi, California, Ohio and Illinois. Jason is in his eighth year as third horn with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra and has played with numerous orchestras in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas and Missouri. His composition Three Russian Miniatures for Horn and Piano is published by Cimarron Music Press, and his Sing me now asleep for mezzo-soprano and flute was premiered in NYC by Rebecca Ashe and Katherine Crawford.
Dr. Rinehart has been involved with the drum and bugle corps activity for over 20 years beginning as a marching member with the Sky Ryders and Phantom Regiment and has previously taught with Capital Regiment, Boston Crusaders, and was the Brass Caption Head for the Glassmen, and Spirit of Atlanta.
He holds memberships in the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Alabama Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and honorary membership in Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. At ULM, The Student Government Association awarded Dr. Rinehart the 2014-2015 Faculty Advisor of the Year award for his work with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
