A Report from Cadets/C2 Audition Weekend

Cadets and Cadets2 Combined Audition Camp, Nov. 18-20
Hopewell Valley Central High School, Pennington, NJ

The Cadets hosted 340 young men and women this weekend at Hopewell Valley Central High School for the first audition weekend of 2017.

Auditions for all sections were held for both The Cadets and Cadets2. In addition, the corps learned and performed a parade tune, a patriotic medley arranged by Michael Terry, "Oh Tannenbaum", a special selection to The Cadets, and FANTASY, an Earth, Wind and Fire classic arranged by Drew Shanefield.

According to George Hopkins, the weekend was a great success. "This weekend is about allowing young folks the chance to take a look at both The Cadets and Cadets2 under one roof," he said. "Our first camp was a great opportunity for all of the auditionees to take a look at which corps is the best fit for them. There was a great turnout, the students were fabulous, and we had a monster staff on hand of 60 educators. We're off to a great start!"

The Cadets also hosted Coffee With The Cadets, a chance for parents, volunteers and alumni to meet and mingle, as well as introductions and a Q&A with George Hopkins and other members of staff from both corps.

Hopkins also announced that Bobby Jones will be joining The Cadets as the visual designer. Bobby is currently the visual designer and programmer for the Reading Buccaneers where he has been involved almost every year since 2005. He has previously served as the Visual Designer and Caption Head for the 2006 Crossmen and the  2007 Hawthorne Caballeros. When Bobby is not designing or teaching, he works as a freelance adjudicator and adjudicates scholastic percussion programs for several indoor and outdoor circuits across the country. He lives in New York with his wife, Amy, and puppy, Myron.

The Cadets will hold a second set of auditions on the weekend of December 9th-11th. If you're interested in joining us for camp, go to www.jointhecadets.org and register to be a part of our second audition weekend. If you're a tuba player, we especially want to see you! Auditions and rehearsals continue through December and January when the corps' roster is finalized in late January.

Cadets2, the defending DCA World Champions, will be rehearsing December 17-18 at Daniel Boone High School, located in Birdsboro, PA. You can also register for the Cadets2 camp at www.jointhecadets.org

Cadets2 Earn 2016 DCA World Championship Title

Capping their fifth anniversary season with a powerful performance of "Full Circle", Cadets2 were crowned the 2016 DCA World Champions at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, New York on Sunday, Sept. 4 with an all-time high score for the corps of 97.95.

YEA! CEO and Corps Director George Hopkins said of the corps' Championship, "Cadets2 was awesome this evening! Their accomplishments this year have been spectacular . As always the goal for a drum corps is to be in the mix as championships arrive. They did that and more."

Serving as the Director of The Cadets and Cadets2, Hopkins added, "In many ways this experience is more enjoyable than the Cadets. Being weekend only the corps can breathe, the outcome is not life and death and the rehearsals are a combination of intensity and fun. These kids love C2 and that love allowed them to take a good show and make it great. Many of these kids have never been this good anywhere and that joy in their eyes when the crowd erupted the past few nights was a gift to see. It was nothing short of amazing!"

Hopkins concluded, "Congrats C2 - all of you, from the bus driver to the donors and everyone in between. It's really more than words can describe!"

The Cadets2 World Championship is the twelfth in the history of the Cadets organization with The Cadets earning 10 DCI World Championships, Cadets Winter Percussion earning the WGI Open Class Percussion title in 2014 and now the DCA World Championship in 2016.

brassarc clifton2016

Continuing in the trend of the season, Cadets2 saw a great turn-out for rehearsal on Friday night, in spite of inclement weather earlier in the afternoon. Every Friday rehearsal of 2016 has had at least 55 of the 60 brass players present, a full, 28-member color guard, a full 19-member drumline and a full C2Pit of 16. Those numbers set up C2 for a successful weekend and second show on Saturday.
