Joe started his marching career in 1964 with the West Paterson Royal Aires. In 1968, he became a member of the Hawthorne Muchachos were he marched until he aged out in 1975. He was captain of the Muchachos Color Guard for the 1974 and 1975 seasons.
Joe's teaching career began with the Waldwick High School Marching Band in the early 70s. He also taught the Sundowners Winter Guard, the Eatontown Royals, Fantasia III, the Hawthorne Muchachos and the Long Island Sunrisers.
In 2006, Joe was part of the support staff for the Hawthorne Caballeros. He then joined the Caballeros Visual Staff in 2007, where he worked through the 2014 season. In August of 2015, Joe became a member of the Cadets2 Visual Staff.
He is also a member of the New Jersey Hall of Fame Class of 2015.
Joe has been married to his wife, Anita, for the last 37 years, and they live in Effort, Pa. Joe and Anita have two children together, their son, Ryan, who teaches in Annapolis, Md., and a daughter, Kaitlin, who is a teacher in Charlotte, N.C.
