The USBands Director is responsible for all activities that have an effect on the achievement of the goals of the department/program. A key member of the senior management team, the Director manages the activities of the USBands staff, maximizes net income and influences the future direction of the program. The USBands Director must keep in balance the double bottom line and be both mission-driven and business focused. It is the responsibility of the Director to build vision and strategies with the Executive Director and Board of Directors into plans which contain the practical steps needed to bring that vision to reality, and to direct staff to operationalize those plans. The USBands Director reports to the Executive Director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Director oversees and is ultimately responsible for all activities of USBands. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Creating Relationships and Program Income Development

The USBands Director will create, maintain and retain relationships that promote and support the goals of USBands.  

  • Achieve annual business income and expense targets, as established during the budgeting process
  • Develop strategies and implement a process for evaluating opportunities in terms of financial impact, mission/strategy fit and organizational capacity
  • Manage ongoing activities, including evaluating all incoming opportunities; developing relationships with external partners and potential partners; managing the potential new business pipeline; researching opportunities and selecting, with the Executive Director, the most appropriate to be developed
  • Create key performance metrics for specific programs, including market analysis, revenue planning, and activity forecasting
  • Prepare verbal and written communications, reports, and presentations for both internal and external audiences

Program Management

  • Willing to perform any and/all tasks necessary to fulfill goals
  • Ensures effective allocation of resources for the development, design, and management of activities, projects and events
  • Collaborates with others internally to meet program and organizational goals and objectives
  • Facilitates the review and evaluation of programs and projects and events to ensure their effectiveness and financial outcomes
  • Collaborates in the development of program and project proposals for external funding
  • Manages staff to assure that participation, financial, organizational and mission goals and timelines are attained, monitors progress, and directs corrective action
  • Ensures that appropriate financial controls are in place and that policies and procedures are followed in reaching financial goals


  • Uses appropriate precision in oral and written communication with all constituents
  • As appropriate, serves as a public spokesperson for USBands and YEA!, communicating effectively its philosophy, mission, and goals to the media, the public, elected officials, current stakeholders, and potential stakeholders
  • Establishes an atmosphere conducive for open communication with and among staff and customers
  • Reviews post event feedback and personally manages “high stakes” responses
  • Is comfortable with technology systems
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills

Job Duties

  • Drives the mission of YEA!, and the value of the USBands program to the organization and all of the constituencies that it serves
  • Inspire, motivate, organize, and direct the staff to maximize productivity
  • Makes difficult management decisions, including appropriate delegation of authority
  • Manages relationships with all stakeholders and builds consensus through excellent communication and strategic planning


Having an affinity for addressing issues creatively, for conceptualizing alternative responses to challenges, and for translating client needs into practical services are necessary skills.

The Director is of high integrity in financial and managerial matters and is honest and fair with staff, members, and all stakeholders. This requires excellent communication skills and a keen understanding of human relations and interactions.


The Director will have a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a related field (Business, Music, Education) and relevant Master Degree preferred. This position requires significant experience in a nonprofit organization, education or business, with a track record in a management position. This person is accustomed to working cooperatively with constituents who may be competitive and/or who have disparate goals and aspirations and will provide evidence of successful collaboration in such environments. Finally, the Director will have achieved a record of advancement indicative of leadership and management acumen in positions of progressively increasing responsibility.

Location and Schedule

This is an exempt salaried position, requiring significant weekend commitments and travel.

YEA! is a not for profit organization with offices in Allentown, PA which services young people after school and on weekends. Consequently, there are a number of weekends involved in the position.  Travel can be within the tri-state area but there are, on occasion, national events to attend, as well as regional and special events.

Full time office hours are Monday – Friday, 8-5 and additional hours may be warranted during more active periods.
